Smoked Salsa on the Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Grill

Smoked Salsa on the Ninja Wood Fire Outdoor Grill

Ingredients:

  • 4 Large Tomato

  • 1/2 Large Red Onion (quarter before smoking, leaving the roots and stems on the onion. See pics for reference)

  • 1 Whole Garlic

  • 2 Jalapeno

  • 1 bunch Cilantro

  • 1-3 Tbs Lime Juice (depending on how limey you like it)

  • 1-2 Tbs Salt (depending on how salty you like it)

  • OPTIONAL for more spice:

  • 1 Poblano (optional for extra heat)

Directions:

  1. Wash veggies, dry, and coat with a layer of olive oil and salt. To make this easy, put all veggies, oil and salt in a dish or gallon sized bag and shake/mix well.

  2. Load Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Grill with your choice of wood pellets. (I’ve used a basic signature blend that Traeger offers. Yes, you heard that right, I don’t use Ninja’s pellet brand..GASP. Turn to smoker setting, temperature 220F, for 2 hours and make sure you press the wood fire button. Hit start and let it ignite the pellets.

  3. Load the grill up with all your oiled vegetables, and close the grill. (The only veggies that should be cut/prepped are the onions.)

  4. Once the timer is up, remove from the smoker and place them in a dish/bowl to allow them cool a little.

  5. Once you can handle the veggies, you should see that the skin of the tomatoes and poblano peppers have come loose. Pull as much of that off as you can (this is optional but I prefer it to remove the skin. But to be honest, it doesn’t make that much of a difference. Dealers choice)

  6. Chop the stems from the tomatoes, onions, jalapeños and poblanos. Keep the seeds if you want the salsa spicy. Scoop them out if you want a milder taste. I like it spicy!

  7. Squeeze the garlic out of its casing. You should be able to do this easily by pulling apart the cloves of the garlic, and then squeeze the corner of each clove. This will just push the garlic right out!

  8. Throw all the veggies in a food processor, blender, or mixer. Add your salt and lime. Pulse or blend the salsa until its halfway to the conistency you want. Grab a chip and taste your creation. Is it amazing? Finish blending to your desired consistency and youre done.

  9. Does it need more salt or lime? Trust your taste buds and add a little bit more of whichever you feel. Everyone tastes a little different and cooking is all about making it perfect for YOU. Finish blending the salsa to your desired consistency, and you’re done!

  10. Eat warm (my favorite way) or store in the fridge for up to a week.

You can make this recipe on the Ninja Woodfire Outdoor Grill, or any traditional smoker you might have!

Salsa in a bag! I may have added a habanero pepper to this batch, but it was freakin spicy yall!

Before the smoke! Added one more tomato after I took this picture.

Throw it all in the food processor and blend until your desired consistency!

Blended up and ready to enjoy! We like ours a little chunky:) Scoop it up with some chips or throw it in your tacos/burritos for some added smoky flavor!

Check out our YouTube video on how to do it the traditional way. I have since added more spice to my taste buds, so this recipe is far more spicy than my previous salsa video.
