Egg-in-a-Hole (My Favorite Breakfast Dish)

Egg-in-a-Hole (or Eggy Bread as we like to call it) is my favorite breakfast! This easy simple breakfast recipe is the perfect way to fancy-up your breakfast without adding any more work. It takes the best part of breakfast - eggs and toast - and mashed them together! (And don’t forget the bacon, of course)

Ingredients:

  • White Bread

  • 1 egg

  • Butter

  • Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder, Paprika. (Or whatever seasonings you prefer on your eggs.)

Directions:

  1. Press a hole in the center of the bread with the edge of a glass. Make sure the hole is not too large, or it may break or leak while trying to cook.

  2. Preheat pan/griddle to medium/medium-low heat. You are not trying to cook this egg quickly. You want the bread to toast, but not burn.

  3. Butter one side of the bread, and place it butter side down on the pan. Go ahead and butter the top of the bread before cracking your egg into it. (I sometimes use spray butter, as its easier.)

  4. Add a small pat of butter to the hole of the bread, let it melt for a couple seconds then crack your egg into the hole.

  5. Season your egg and then let it cook for a couple minutes. You can lift up the edge of the bread to see how it looks. I usually try and flip it once I can push the bread around in the pan, and the egg stays in place within the bread.

  6. Get a good spatula, and flip the egg in one swift motion. Do it confidently and flip the damn thing. DON’T HESITATE, JUST FLIP!

  7. Let the other side cook until your egg is cooked to your doneness and remove from pan.

  8. I like to serve it with some crispy bacon and some fresh parsley on top!
